Nature is Dying.

November 5, 2018

The stats are starting to roll in about our planet and all the living things that inhabit it.

This is what I read today in the newspaper.

"60% of vertebrate population has fallen since 1970"

"80% freshwater populations have vanished"

"The collapse of global wildlife populations is a warning sign that nature is dying"

Did you read my last post: 'Can we start thinking outside of the box and deliver a better, healthier future for our planet?'  I covered the issues of fast fashion, tips on how to make ethical choices when buying clothes or designing them and I discussed the hot topic of plastic and how it is destroying our eco-system.

It is scary what is happening to our world, and I know that many of us feel a little helpless.  I wasn't going to be an ethical bridal designer, however since being educated on fast fashion, and the textile industry I believe it is important for everyone to start making changes.

This is what I am proposing:

- All of my dresses are being lined with organic bamboo with GOTS certified.

Organic fabric selections above.

- I will only make a small collection of up to 3 dresses to minimalise fabric usage, waste and production.  There will be sketches and fabric swatches to support other dress ideas, not more samples.  I will not make collections every year only on paper, with a couple of popular dresses being made.

.- Brides are able to to purchase a dress from the picture with a toile being made for the first fitting to see if the fit and style is what they imagined.  IF the bride isn't happy with the style then we adjust the design with bridal styling help from me.

-Never design wedding dresses using cheap polyesters or satins.

-Recycle any left over pieces of fabric for outfits on my 'Bride Bunnies'

-Donate pieces of unwanted fabrics to nurseries and schools for craft or textile projects.

Here are my Top Tips to be ethical in the Textiles Industry.  It doesn't all relate to the Bridal Industry but to our shopping habits.  Please try at least one.

If you are getting married and you like the idea of an ethical bridal gown made specifically to you then please contact me on 07511818923.

If you would like to see a little behind the scenes of how I work.  Below is a short video.
