A muse: A person who serves as an artist's inspiration.
Issue 4: Muse by Nurture and Bloom. Editor Kate Cullen.
This issue is about Muse, covering topics on journalling, recipes, gardening and nature and it explains the creative force behind some businesses.
The following information is about my own muse, which is not in the magazine, however I am featured in it with the Lyra Dress that is stocked in Willoughby and Wolf. (Marlborough)
“I am my own muse. I am the subject I know best. The subject I want to know better.” ― Frida Kahlo
I couldn't agree more that 'I am my own muse' although I don't do self-portraits like Frida, I do create and design everything around my beliefs and passions. So what inspires me and makes my soul dance with delight? Firstly, I will talk about what makes me feel alive. I love the feeling of walking in a stream, wild swimming or surfing the waves (I am not that good but it does make me feel happy) I also appreciate that my children love it too! Below we went on a mini camping break and found this amazing spot where we could swim in the river.
What else are my enjoyments, tennis, yoga, meeting up with friends for coffee's, dinners, holidays, and walks. So this is what I enjoy but how does this relate to my wedding business?
It's funny how you grow up you begin to appreciate everything around you. My student years were spent partying, socialising, sport and passing exams. I did study Fashion and Textiles and most of my projects were inspired by nature, so from the start it was what I was attracted to. When you reach a certain age, you start noticing the small things around you, like the pretty flowers, the silky petals, the earths natural resources, and artful landscapes.
The soft and delicate fabrics against your skin, I only use silks and organic bamboo and I line my dresses with bamboo, it is so soft.
Colours. (That is why I love a bit of dip dye and I can offer a dip dye service, even if you bought your wedding dress elsewhere)
So incorporating what I love most in my life, ie nature, textures, living organisms, rivers, streams, the earth and it's many wonders. I collect inspiration from these topics and digest them into my bridal designs. My current collection is around the flowers and the bee's and how we should appreciate these insects and how they support us so we must look after them. (This is in my previous blog post The Honeybee Collection 2020)
